How to add pictures to Google Calendar events

How it works

Google Calendar reads the title of each event. When the title contains a word it recognises, such as breakfast, tennis or haircut, the event gets a full-width illustration.

You cannot upload your own image and there is no setting for it. The words in the title are the only switch.

Add a picture step by step

1. Open Google Calendar on your phone and create an event.
2. Put a keyword in the title, for example “Yoga class”. Browse the full list to find one.
3. Save the event and open Schedule view. The picture appears behind the title.

Keywords follow your phone’s language

The app only reads keywords in the language your phone is set to. On a phone set to Spanish, “café” works and “coffee” may not. See the keywords for your language.

When two keywords compete

Each event shows one picture. If the title contains several keywords, the app prefers the longer phrase, then the one that comes first. “Yoga on Valentine’s Day” shows Valentine’s Day.
